Human Interaction
Module description — Human Interaction, from Orchestra 5.2.
Description
Orchestra Human Interaction is an innovative module for Orchestra. The module allows human actors (users) to be integrated into integrations (Orchestra scenarios) and to interact with them. The users do not need to have any knowledge of Orchestra (e.g. designer or runtime). Interaction takes place via a web frontend without direct interaction with Orchestra.
The interaction is defined by the Orchestra developer in the Orchestra Designer as "Human Tasks". The developer defines what type of interaction is required. Human interaction tasks are displayed in a separate web frontend.
As a rule, two central use cases are realized with the help of Human Interaction. Firstly, an employee or a group of employees start the process of an Orchestra scenario. Secondly, the process of an Orchestra scenario pauses and waits for an employee to decide how to continue. In both cases, data from a process can be viewed, transferred, or edited.
Main features and functions
- Start Orchestra scenarios: Users can manually generate a start event for an Orchestra scenario. Data can also be transferred to the Orchestra scenario. The event can be executed via a web frontend.
- Continue with Orchestra scenarios: Orchestra scenarios are paused until they are resumed by a user. All paused processes are kept in a list. Users interact with the Orchestra scenario process via a web front end.
- View and edit data: The user can view the specific data of a process and even edit it if necessary. Data can also be transferred from a user to a process.
Special features
A range of different forms are available for displaying the human task.
- Simple workflows (with simple yes/no decisions): Orchestra offers a series of predefined dialogs for which you only need to enter the text and the labels for the buttons.
- Complex workflows: Orchestra Human Interaction offers the possibility to provide customized web resources. This makes it possible to design customized websites. In addition, Human Interaction supports the dynamic creation of websites based on input parameters or messages. It is also possible to connect a Human Task to an externally hosted website.
- Escalations: Orchestra Human Interaction offers the possibility to implement escalations. If a paused process of an Orchestra scenario is not continued by a user within a definable period, the task can be escalated (forwarded) to another user.
Use cases (exemplary)
Orchestra Human Interaction can be used to realize a wide variety of use cases in which human actors need to be involved in integration processes.
- Industry: During ongoing data transmission from a production machine to a central MES, the Orchestra scenario detects exceeded limit values in the machine signal - such as a temperature that is outside the specification. The platform automatically stops the data flow and waits for a human decision. The production manager has been informed. He sees the raw data, can interpret it, confirm an error status, or mark it as a false alarm. He then continues the transfer manually. The Orchestra scenario executes different reactions according to the assessment (e.g. logging the error in a separate database).
- Business: A new supplier submits master data that is automatically transferred from the ERP. The Orchestra scenario recognizes incompleteness or rule violations (e.g. invalid bank details). The process is paused in real time. An employee in Purchasing is notified and can correct or complete the critical fields directly (e.g. by contacting the supplier). Only then is the processing of the master data continued and the transfer to the ERP completed.
- ITSM: A new employee is to be registered, and various new user accounts are created in the system. The department head responsible enters all relevant information via the web UI. The Orchestra scenario is triggered and transfers the data to various systems to create accounts or update master data.
